The typhoon that I thought was weak evidently wasn't. 600 Marines are being deployed to the Philippenes to help with the disaster relief from the typhoon and a tropical storm. Hundreds of people died and are still missing.
Dec. 7th was the 63rd anniversary of Pearl Harbor. Many men died in the attacks by the Japanese. Needless to say, there wasn't much said about it here. But, it was on my mind and they are gone but not forgotten.
I saw on the news the other day that a Japanese woman in her mid 60's is going on a hunger strike due to the surveying of land to move MCAS Futenma. They protest all the time about where Futenma is now, and especially after the CH-53 had a malfunction and crashed at a university just before the fence line of Futenma. The only ones hurt in the crash were on the helicopter(but are fine now)They protest to shut it down, and when they go to survey land to move it out of a heavy populated area, they protest that too. They want us to leave? If we do, we'll be blamed for ruining their economy. My husband is stationed at Futenma. And people wonder why they don't like us here.... This is why I get nervous going to stores off base alone.
