More Rambles..
Today is suprisingly cold. Our high today will only be 59! It really seems like typhoon season or something. Water activities are prohibited. I've been in my pj's all day now, and don't plan on changing. Today is New Years Eve here in Okinawa, and I've been thinking about this year. It has gone by so fast. I've thought alot about my husband. It wasn't all sad either. It mainly has been the funny things. I thought I'd share how goofy my husband really is. One day we were playing around and he was trying to throw a fit. So he goes running to the bedroom. I follow just enough to see in the door. All I see if from about waist down, flying in the air with toes pointed aiming for the bed. I guess he didn't remember that we have satin sheets and comforter, because he slid right off in a heap of blankets and hit the floor. He was stuck in the comforter between the bed and the floor. All I could see of him was limbs sticking out in every direction, then heard a mumbled "ow." He is quite the little kid at times, but I think that's why I like him. I don't know what New Years is really supposed to make you feel, but it makes me feel happy for this year. I had my first anniversary, my son was born, I have quite a few stories of my husband being a little kid, and I made a home here with my husband. I hope everyone can reflect on this year and see the happiness they have had.
Tsunami
I was sitting here thinking about all that has happend here in the Pacific. 600 Marines were deployed this month to help with disaster relief in the Philippenes due to typhoons. They had mudslides which destroyed houses and businesses. Then the earthquake happend. I don't know a whole lot about what all has happend. I heard on the island news today that the military here in Okinawa has sent 3,000 cases of MRE's and 4 pallets of water to help with the relief. Since the tsunami's have happend, the weather here has changed. The wind was so cold and hard it could take your breath away today. Our sea condition is E/W-warning. It almost felt like a typhoon was coming. I just think it's crazy about all that's happend around in here in about a months time.

I don't mean to put alot of pictures all at once on here, but I had to put this one up. I was scanning the picture he's holding to put on here a few days ago. I let Tristan look at it and told him it was Dada. He kept saying Dada and pointing to his face. I tried to take it away to put it back up and he wouldn't give it back. I finally did take it away and he cried and kept saying Dada. It made me cry. I try to be in good spirits, but this picture tugs at your heart.
Yay!
I hope everyone's Christmas was good. Mine was okay. Tristan had a good time. He didn't want to sleep at all. Too many new toys to play with. My Christmas was made best at about 12:30am. My husband called me and we talked for about 15 minutes. The connection was really bad and I could barely hear him. We talked of nothing in particular, but it was great to hear from him. He said they ate turkey at chow for Christmas, but the rest of the day was normal. A bit of relief to know he's alright.
How COOOL!
I saw a commercial on AFN today that was really cool. Go to www.noradsanta.org It's a website that tracks Santa as he leaves the North Pole. They say that fighter jets escort the jolly old man in some locations. I just think it's the neatest thing ever. They say the speed of his sleigh is classified, but you can watch him on radar. Another job that the military does, helping Santa.
worried....
I've watched the news for a few days about the "suicide bombing" in Mosul. My husband hasn't called me in 4 days. He can't tell me where he is. Which leads to the worry. I talked to a friend of mine on the phone today. Her husband is in the same shop as mine. He calls her everyday, even though the phone cards are expensive.(Trust me, she's told me the amount of money they've spent in 4 months just on phone calls) She said she hasn't talked to him since the breaking news of the attack. I don't think that they were there, but I don't even know where they are. I'm just worried. I seriously doubt he was in the bombing...but not knowing where he is just makes the feeling even stronger. My friend and I think that maybe they just cut the lines off for a while for OPSEC reasons. I hope he makes my Christmas and calls me.
Rambles...
I went to the movies for the first time with my son yesterday. We saw Polar Express. It was a good movie. He did good, up until about 15 minutes to the end of it. I walked out of the theater with make-up smeared and hair pulled everywhere. he likes to....hug....you by smashing his face into yours. He pulls on your cheeks and hair as if to get you closer. I can't punish him for doing it, but try to tell him to be softer. It is kinda cute. 2 sort-of friends of mine want me to have Christmas dinner with them and I really want to stay home and have it alone with my son. I already bought the food too. Am I wrong for wanting to spend it with my son at home alone? I've been looking a bit forward to it actually. Am I greedy for not sharing the holiday spirit with others and just staying at home?
uhm........
Okay, I just sat through a movie on t.v. tonight. It was called "Elf." It was......odd. Not like Stanley Kubrick odd, more like spraying yourself in the eye with throat spray to see if it goes numb.(yes there is a story behind that one.) I'm a bit odd myself, and I like odd things but man... Even I shook my head at this. I like Christmas movies, but some of them just don't get thought all the way through before showtime. Granted, the four horseman in Central Park was clever.Maybe I just like the older stuff. I love the cartoon Grinch. The Jim Carrey one is okay, but not the same. Give me the black and white It's A Wonderful Life, and A Christmas Story and I'll be happy.
I can only imagine.....
I heard from my husband a couple of days ago. He's evidently doing okay since he told me he Christmas shopped online. He told me he got some thing for our son, and I'm a bit worried. he said he bought him a stuffed animal. Sounds normal, right? If you know Joe, then you know it's not normal. The next thing he told me is that he hopes it fits in the car. So now I can only imagine the size of this thing. I'm trying to think how I am going to carry the box it comes in, and my son to the 5th floor of my building. Might be bringing bunji(however you spell it) chords with me for a while to the post office when I check my mail.
Another thing in my life here in Okinawa that is odd is the weather. It's a week away from Christmas and the high today was 77. In all the base housing there is no central heat and air. We have those little units you see in hotels. Well, someone out there decides when the air turns into heat. They did about a week ago. Makes no sense to me. So now at bedtime it feels like late spring before you finally shut the windows and turn on the a/c. Have nothing but a sheet on your bed, sticky air, and an even harder time for me to fall asleep. I'm not complaining about the day time, too much. It gets a bit warm in my house if the wind doesn't blow. But you get out in this weather and it's nice. No dreams of snow here...just wish they would keep the family swimming beaches open year round.
Marine Corps Christmas spirit
This morning I saw something rather funny. Sometimes I can hear a troop running during their PT, but this morning was different. I hear the cadence, and get up to look out my balcony. I see Santa leading the troop. The rest of the guys were in silkies and red t-shirts, with Santa hats on. I thought that was great. Then I heard another group coming up. This time the guys were in regular PT gear, but had antlers on and pulling a cardboard sleigh. About 3 more troops ran by with red shirts and Santa hats on. It was so funny to see. I think there might have been something for the elementary kids because alot of the children were walking towards where the troops ended up heading. About 3 hours later I heard a little voice say,"Here we go". Followed by a bunch of little voices repeating. Then "All the way" was yelled out. There was also squealing, laughing and talking added in, but it was so funny to see. These kids trying to say cadences were in maybe the 3rd grade. It was just a sight to see today.
Man, I'm a dork...
Let me start off by saying Jesse had her baby and as far as I know all is doing well. A 6lb 13oz little girl named Emma. Well, today was a normal, uneventful day like always. I was driving home from the commisary and put in a CD. I then heard Tristan in the backseat of the car, singing! He was making singing sounds to a band called New Found Glory. It's a newer punk band that I like. It was funny. Reason #1 that I'm a dork: I think it's cute that my kid likes punk music, and that I dress him in punk clothes.
I get home and put him down for a nap. I turn on the TV, not really watching it. Just wanted background noise as I picked up the house a bit. Access Hollywood was on and it showed that Johnny Depp is doing a remake of one of my favorite movies, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I thought that was so great. Not to mention I think Johnny Depp is a cutie. It won't be better than the origional by any means, but still is cool that they're doing it. Reason #2 that I'm a dork: I can sing almost every word to the songs of Willy Wonka, and I actually said "yay" outloud when I saw that Johnny Depp was doing a remake of the movie.
Info
Well, I got an e-mail from the CO's wife about a website to see pictures of my husbands MEU. I thought maybe I would share. http://www.31meu.usmc.mil
There's a little link to my husband's wing. Click on the HMM-265(rein) patch and it will take you to it. The MEU website has pictures of the guys in Iraq if you click on the "Combat Camera." Pretty cool. Like I said, just thought I'd share.
What the.....???
I'm sitting here minding my own business watching the season finale of Las Vegas(not the biggest fan but when you only have one channel you can't be picky) and one of the characters is a Marine who gets re-activated and shipped out. It's a fake show and it made me cry. A Marine Corps recruiting commercial comes on, and I tear up. Anything I see about guys saying on tv that they love their wives, or having to leave I bawl like a spanked baby. What the hell is wrong with me? I'm not a hard ass or anything, but I'm not this damn soft. I can sit straight faced through "Old Yeller", but can't when a picture flashes on tv of a guy in uniform fresh off the boat holding their baby. It was bad enough when I watched "We Were Soldiers" a couple weeks ago all alone. I love the movie and all, but it probably wasn't the greatest idea considering the circumstances right now. As soon as one of the guys said"I'm glad I could die for my country." and"Tell my wife I love her." I was a puddle of snot. I know my husband is gone and all, but I know I can handle it. And I think I'm doing pretty good, so why the hell am I crying over a stupid tv show?
wow
The typhoon that I thought was weak evidently wasn't. 600 Marines are being deployed to the Philippenes to help with the disaster relief from the typhoon and a tropical storm. Hundreds of people died and are still missing.
Dec. 7th was the 63rd anniversary of Pearl Harbor. Many men died in the attacks by the Japanese. Needless to say, there wasn't much said about it here. But, it was on my mind and they are gone but not forgotten.
I saw on the news the other day that a Japanese woman in her mid 60's is going on a hunger strike due to the surveying of land to move MCAS Futenma. They protest all the time about where Futenma is now, and especially after the CH-53 had a malfunction and crashed at a university just before the fence line of Futenma. The only ones hurt in the crash were on the helicopter(but are fine now)They protest to shut it down, and when they go to survey land to move it out of a heavy populated area, they protest that too. They want us to leave? If we do, we'll be blamed for ruining their economy. My husband is stationed at Futenma. And people wonder why they don't like us here.... This is why I get nervous going to stores off base alone.

Yesterday I ventured out to the PX on Camp Foster on a weekend. Big mistake..... Driving into the parking lot was like being back home at a mall the day after Thanksgiving. I was in shock. When I got on the base, it seemed really quiet to me. I figured out where everyone was. I was just going there to return a pair of jeans I didn't like. After circling the parking lot, praying for any spot, I got in the store and FORGOT THE DAMN JEANS! I left them in the car. I said to hell with it and I'm atleast going to walk around a little bit since I fought my way in already. I shove my way back into the toy section and there he was. Santa with a rreeaall beard taking pictures with kids. Tristan was in Nike sweats and a hoodie, not quite picture clothes, but I got one anyway. It kinda made the whole trip worth while. I wanted to post it on here before I send it off to my husband. He would have had Tristan get his picture taken if he was here. Today I had my TMO inspection. Some Japanese lady from the contract moving co. came and opened all my closets and drawers to estimate my shipment weight. A bit odd, but I guess it had to be done. I'm having a problem with my son also. He's 9 months old, with no teeth, and doesn't want to eat baby food. (which has happend once before, but for only like a week 1/2) He won't eat puree veggies I make myself either. He'll eat bread, crackers, nilla wafers, canned carrots, and pancakes. Is that healthy enough for him? He still drinks about 24oz. of formula a day too. What else can I give my picky little toothless wonder?
News
Well, first off the typhoon came and I didn't even feel it. By the time it was supposed to be here, we were out of typhoon conditions, just a storm watch. I guess it really hit the Philippenes hard though. They had mud slides and people died and were injured.
I was watching T.V. a couple days ago, and the local news came on called "The Pacific Report."They started talking about my husband's MEU. They said that they had been extended due to Iraqi elections. That was the first I heard of it. My eyebrows were way up on my forehead. The next day I went to buy some groceries and saw his MEU on the cover of the Stars and Stripes once again saying they were extended. I go home and read it, which ended up being only 2 lines inside the newspaper. I got all freaked out. I hadn't heard from my husband in 3 days, so I didn't know what to think. He finally called and explained it to me. They were supposed to come home in Jan. (which I didn't know) but now are coming home in March. Not too bad, so I calmed down. Later on that night I got a mass e-mail to all the wives from the CO's wife telling us about the extention. The guys will leave in Feb. and for time to get back home, it will be March. So in all actuality, they'll be home on the estimated latest date that they origionally had. Gee, so I got worked up for nothing. Sometimes the military and their constantly changing dates bugs me.....
Another typhoon?
My day was not very entertaining. I found a christmas tree ornament that was great. It is an eagle holding a shield with 2 flags on either side, and a wreath on bottom. In gold letters it says Serving Our Country Proudly. A little gold star hangs on the bottom with 2004 in it. I bought it for my husband, since he is serving proudly. There is a typhoon down in the philippenes right now, and the AFN weather center says it has winds up to 168mph. We are in TC-4. (there's a few ways I've heard it stand for. Typhoon condition, typhoon cyclone, typhoon condition readiness) It means that winds up to 50mph are possible within 72 hours. www.kadena.af.mil can show you the storm I bet. Just follow the links to weather. I heard women talking in the PX that it might make it's way up here by Sat. I can't complain too much about the weather here. I see the weather for all Pacific locations where military is located, and Guam,Kawajalin Atoll(i think that's how you spell it), and Wake Island rain almost everyday.
